Description

This 3-in-1 engineering kit allows students to build a robot, race car and countdown timer without batteries, glue or electricity. Instead, they use a mainspring that stores energy when wound by hand and converts that energy into motion when discharged. Inside the robot, the mainspring enables it to walk forward on two legs, up to 20 inches. The race car drives up to 45 feet while the mainspring uncoils to turn the wheels. The timer uses springs, gears, ratchets and linkages to count down as much as six minutes. While assembling the 133 snap-together pieces, students learn about spring-powered devices, potential and kinetic energy and how gears function.
